What Are Tension Headaches?

Headache Treatment Edmonton ABNothing can make people feel quite as tense as the holidays. And with Thanksgiving Day behind us and other holidays quickly approaching, it can truly feel like the most stressful time of the year.

People exhibit symptoms of stress in a variety of different ways including tense shoulders, sleeplessness, fatigue, anxiety, or even headaches. If you suffer from the latter— especially during the holidays— then we at Today’s Dental may be able to help.

Around 80% of adults get tension headaches, and about 90% of all headaches are caused by tension, which means that you are certainly not alone. Symptoms of tension headaches typically include pain throughout the forehead and temple area which can also cause a misalignment in the bite. When your bite is misaligned, it can cause pain in the forehead and jaw which leads to more frequent tension headaches.

What Can Today’s Dental Do?

During your initial consultation, we will conduct a variety of tests including a physical examination and maybe even some x-rays to take a closer look at your jaw. Depending on your results, we may recommend a variety of treatments including:

  • Obtaining a custom-made orthotic
  • Seeking orthodontic care to reposition teeth and correct alignment
  • Receiving dental restorations to create a newly improved bite
  • A combination of any of the above options

Before we get into the thick of the holidays, make sure that you are taking good care of your overall health and that you kick your tension headaches to the curb before you can say, “Happy Holidays!”
